Summer Udate

Hope you are enjoying the summer.

As Roy Leavitt previously communicated, Cathy has resigned from Greenwich House.  We appreciate her dedication and commitment, and look forward to continuing to work with Yojiro.

Volunteer:

  • As Anthony Cilione, Director of Judith C. White Senior Center, mentioned at the May 19 meeting, the Senior Center is now wired for Wi-Fi.  They are in need of laptops with wireless cards for seniors to use at the senior center – Great way to put your old laptop to use.  The Senior Center is also expanding its volunteer opportunities.  Contact Lisa if you have volunteer project ideas or want to volunteer yourself.
  • On June 29 12 volunteers from Morgan Stanley, including the Chief Administrative Officer, accompanied 14 seniors from the Judith C. White Senior Center on an afternoon of culture at the Museum of Modern Art, where they enjoyed a guided tour which highlighted the new James Ensor exhibit.

  • On July 16, 14 volunteers from Morgan Stanley joined five Advisory Council members and Yojiro on their lunch hours to host the Summer Birthday Party at the Judith C. White Senior Center.  Volunteers decorated the activity room with streamers and balloons prior to serving seniors donated treats, followed by a spirited game of NYC Trival Pursuit.  We hope to make this a quarterly event so let us know if you are interested in volunteering.

TASTE:  Monday, March 8, 2010
  • Start thinking about potential sponsors, restaurants, contacts at liquor distributors and auction items.  Give Seth and Amy a heads up before your reach out to prevent duplication of effort.
  • The Taste Benefit Committee kicked off planning for Taste 2010 with an entertaining evening on Thursday, June 25 hosted by Braeburn.  If you or a friend/colleague are interested in joining the TBC, please contact Amy and Seth.

Upcoming Dates:
  • Thursday, July 16: Summer Birthday Party at the Judith C. White Senior Center
  • Tuesday, August 4: Summer Advisory Council Happy Hour, place TBD
  • Tuesday, September 15: Advisory Council Meeting

July 16 Greenwich House Seniors Birthday Party

Volunteer to help the Judith C. White Senior Center at Greenwich House celebrate summer birthdays with a party on Thursday, July 16, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.

The low-income seniors served by the Greenwich House Senior Center often do not have any family locally and rarely receive gifts or extra treats – so it will be a nice surprise for them to have a party in their honor.

Come on your lunch hour, two shifts are available: 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. and 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

  • Decorate the activity room with streamers, balloons, etc.
  • Join the seniors in playing party games like Pictionary and Password.
  • Enjoy refreshments.

Each volunteer is asked to sign up to bring one of the following:

  • Decorations: Streamers, balloons or Happy Birthday sign
  • Refreshments: 1 dozen cookies/cupcakes, 1 sheet cake, 2 bags chips/pretzels or 2 bottles of juice/beverage
  • Or donate $10 to be used towards gifts/party

Contact greenwich.house@yahoo.com to volunteer on July 16.

Greenwich House is a non-profit which provides social services to the New York City Community, including a Senior Center for low-income seniors, offering two meals a day during the week as well as cultural activities.  For more information on Greenwich House go to www.greenwichhouse.org.
